KP LAUNCH Interns Tour the Richmond Regional Laboratory

  • News

The Regional Laboratory offers advanced facilities that help deliver quick and accurate diagnoses while ensuring an exceptional patient experience. The lab receives over 50,000 specimens per day from all of the KP Medical Centers, doctor’s offices, and clinics across NCAL. The work that is done at the regional lab is an essential part of the health care process and is open 24/7. Most of the specimens comes in between 12 noon and midnight so the scientist and technicians work to have results ready and out by 7AM the next day.

This year our KP LAUNCH High School Interns had the opportunity to tour the Eastbay Regional Laboratory in Richmond. Our tours, led by David Luong (a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and Section Manger in Education and Training) gave our interns an overview of the facility and insights into the machinery and types or testing by done on a daily basis. From Hematology, immunochemistry and toxicology the testing done is a vital aspect of our healthcare organization.
